Bar Code Drug Paintings

This series of bar code paintings is about how we perceive illegal drugs. The bar code symbolizes a respectable business, with high volume, and efficient customer service. This binary labeling changes the way we view these controversial commodities. The simple black and white bars somehow legitimizes this underground market. I make each painting using acrylic paint on unstretched canvas with metal eyelets in each corner for hanging. I use a library of bar code stencils, which allows me to produce paintings more efficiently, more like a machine.
